THE Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has issued a strong wind warning that remains in effect for most waters across the country, urging boaters, fishermen, and coastal residents to exercise caution.
According to the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services (SIMS), a trough lies south of Solomon Island while a general westerly wind flow persists over the country. Expect westerly winds to reach 20 to 25 knots and gust up to 30 knots over most waters. Authorities fear potential risks to maritime activities and coastal areas.
“Seas will be moderate to rough with moderate west to northwest swells (2.5–3.0 meters). Expect poor visibility in heavy rain and thunderstorm areas.
“People in those areas should take precautionary measures, as strong winds have the potential to impact lives and properties. Sea travelers are urged to consider safety actions as such winds can produce dangerous wave conditions that are hazardous to small boats,” warned the SIMS.
The country’s population has been urged by the Meteorological Services to stay informed and ready by tuning in to SIBC radio and all other media channels for additional updates. Additionally, disseminate this information to those who are disabled.
The next strong wind warning will be issued at 7:00 am tomorrow morning.
