The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has received two new NAID patrol boats donated by the Australian Government, strengthening the country’s maritime policing capability.
RSIPF Acting Commissioner Mr James Aitorea, thanked Australia and the Australian Federal Police for the gift and noted that the vessels will boost near coastal patrols, law enforcement, search and rescue, medical evacuations and community response across Solomon Islands.
Aitorea said the boats will also help tackle transnational serious and organised crime and make Solomon Islands’ waters safer.
The donation is part of a wider Australian investment of more than 33 million SBD (about 6.5 million AUD) in maritime policing.
The project included delivery, preparation and support from several Australian government agencies.
He emphasized that the value of the boats goes beyond the hardware accompanying training, maintenance and operational support will help keep the vessels safe and effective over the long term.
He said the handover reflects strong partnership and shared commitment to security and stability in Solomon Islands and the region.
The new boats are intended to strengthen the RSIPF’s ability to intercept illicit drugs, target organised crime, and protect Solomon Islands sovereignty.
The Commissioner praised the partnership, thanked those involved in design, procurement, training and delivery, and formally presented the vessels to RSIPF, expressing confidence they will support ongoing policing work
