The people of Ghumu village and neighbouring communities today celebrated the official handover of the Ghumu Footpath Project, a rural access initiative jointly funded by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Ngella Constituency.

The project marks a significant improvement in safe travel, community connectivity, and local economic activity for residents across the area.
Constructed through swamp terrain and dense forest, the new footpath provides a durable pedestrian link between Ghumu and surrounding villages, schools, health centres, and markets. Its completion is expected to ease daily movement for women, youth, farmers, and elderly community members who have long faced challenges navigating the difficult terrain, especially during the rainy season.

At the handover ceremony, representatives from PRC and Ngella Constituency emphasised the value of partnership‑driven development, noting that the project demonstrates how targeted investments can directly uplift rural communities. They highlighted that improved access will enhance safety, reduce travel time, and support farmers transporting produce to nearby markets.

Community leaders also expressed deep appreciation, describing the footpath as a long‑awaited solution to mobility barriers that have affected livelihoods for decades.
They noted that the improved route will strengthen social and economic ties, expand access to education and health services, and create new opportunities for community interaction and local trade.

The Ghumu Footpath now stands as a symbol of cooperation and friendship between the People’s Republic of China and the people of Solomon Islands, while the Ngella Constituency’s commitment to inclusive rural development and empowerment.
