DEPUTY Prime Minister, Honorable Bradley Billy Smoky Rodo Tovosia said he is optimistic about the Australia and Solomon Islands partnership in the renewable energy sector.

Hon. Minister Tovosia said this when speaking during the launch of the Off-Grid Renewable Energy partnership at the Heritage Part hotel in Honiara on Friday, June 7.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to continuing our partnership with the Australian government in future initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable energy and development in the Solomon Islands. Today, we can build a brighter and more resilient future for our people.

“That’s important for our country and for your generous support and unwavering commitment to our renewable energy initiatives. The successful implementation of renewable energy projects in our country stands as a testament to the strong and ending partnership between our nations.

“I’m optimistic that through these renewable energy projects, we can extend electricity access to the people of Solomon Island. This will elevate poverty and commence sustainable developments in Solomon Island that will create a more robust and dynamic environment of economic growth,’’ he said.

He said that Solomon Islands support has been instrumental in advancing its efforts towards sustainable development and energy independence.

“The renewable energy project has not only provided reliable and clean energy for our country’s path. It has also significantly contributed to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with our shared commitment to combat climate change,’’ Hon. Tovosia said.

He stated that the positive effect of this project will benefit rural communities across the Solomon Islands in the future by allowing them to enjoy improved access to electricity when such projects are extended, enhancing the quality of life, boosting rural economics, and providing new opportunities for education and healthcare.

“That transformation is a direct result of the Australian government’s vision and generosity. I want to take this opportunity to announce that my ministry is embarking on reforms to elevate the delivery of rural energy projects to new heights.

“Therefore, I appeal to all participating sectors, agencies, and government partners, domestically, regionally, and internationally, to actively collaborate with the responsible government agency to further enhance implementation, governance, and the delivery of renewable energy projects in the country.

“I would like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all those involved in this project. We did this project with partners and engineers, as well as local workers and community members. You know the very rural populace. We have nothing as a means of energy. I want all of us to stand together and make this happen because our people will benefit more from this clean energy movement,’’ Hon. Tovosia said.

He also acknowledged the people who will benefit and improve their lives as part of this project.

“I am looking forward to that as a means of energy in my eyes. We look forward to that work. I would like to ask my other partners as well to do this together,’’ he said.
