A new cocoa-processing machine handed over by the United Kingdom to Kokonut Pacific Solomon Islands (KOSI) is expected to strengthen sustainable economic development, create jobs, and add value to locally produced cocoa across the Solomon Islands.

The support will enable KOSI to expand its chocolate production while increasing opportunities for more than 1,000 local cocoa farmers who are already benefiting from training, market access, and business development programs. By processing cocoa locally, the initiative helps reduce reliance on raw commodity exports and encourages greater value addition within the country.

The project also contributes to environmental and community development goals by supporting sustainable farming practices, improving rural livelihoods, and creating employment opportunities throughout the cocoa value chain. Increased local processing can reduce waste, enhance resource efficiency, and promote long-term economic resilience for farming communities.

The new equipment is expected to boost production for both domestic and export markets, opening new pathways for Solomon Islands cocoa products to reach international consumers.

The UK’s continued support through trade partnerships and participation in global cocoa events highlights growing efforts to connect Solomon Islands producers with overseas markets while promoting sustainable agriculture and inclusive economic growth.

The initiative demonstrates how strategic investment in local industries can drive environmental sustainability, strengthen rural economies, and support a more resilient future for Solomon Islands communities.
