Dr. Shane Tutua, co-owner of SolAgro, is representing the Solomon Islands at the prestigious FoodEx 2025 expo in Tokyo, Japan, according to JICA Solomon Islands.

Earlier this month, he is showcasing the company’s ngali nut products and herbal teas to potential buyers from around the world. The expo, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, is a renowned platform for global food and beverage brands, attracting thousands of exhibitors and buyers from over 70 countries.

“We are here to introduce ngali nuts, a hidden gem from the Solomon Islands, to a global market,” said Dr. Tutua. “With their high protein content, healthy fats, and anti-inflammatory properties, ngali nuts are not just a healthy snack but also a food product that aligns perfectly with the growing health-conscious trend here in Japan.”

Ngali nuts, which are native to the Solomon Islands, are packed with essential nutrients that are highly valued in the health industry. Dr. Tutua is hopeful that the products will be embraced by Japanese consumers, who are increasingly seeking nutritious and sustainable food options.

The event is supported by the Pacific Islands Center (PIC) in Japan, and SolAgro’s participation was made possible through collaboration with the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). A dedicated support team, including JICA volunteers and a Solomon Islander residing in Japan, has helped set up the booth and promote SolAgro’s products.

“It’s truly encouraging to see the positive feedback and the interest from potential buyers,” Dr. Tutua remarked. “This is just the beginning, and we hope this opportunity will help us expand our reach in the international market.”

SolAgro’s participation at FoodEx 2025 highlights the growing recognition of the Solomon Islands’ unique products and the global potential of its local industries.
