President of the Malaita Provincial Youth Council, Phillip Subu, and Abel Wanesuia, Chairman of the Besi Youth Association in North Malaita, attended the official Design Launch of the Solomon Islands Climate Resilient Agricultural Development Project held this morning in Honiara.
The $50 million initiative, funded by the Australian Government in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL), aims to strengthen agricultural systems and boost climate resilience across the Solomon Islands. The project will run from 2026 to 2029, marking a major investment in sustainable rural development and food security.

In a statement, the Malaita Provincial Youth Council (MPYC), expressed sincere appreciation to the Australian High Commission in Solomon Islands for the invitation and recognition of the vital role young people play in advancing agricultural development.
“Empowering youth in agriculture is the way forward to address youth unemployment and drive sustainable development in Malaita Province,” the MPYC said.
MPYC President Phillip Subu noted that the event was the first consultation for the project’s design phase. He said his participation aimed to contribute ideas on how young people could be meaningfully engaged in the implementation of agricultural programs under the project.

“It’s important that youths understand their role and how they can actively participate in this agriculture project,” Subu said.
Also present at the launch was Tristan Armstrong, Counsellor for Human Development at the Australian High Commission, Solomon Islands.
The MPYC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with development partners and government agencies to ensure youth are empowered to contribute to resilient and sustainable agricultural growth in Malaita and across the Solomon Islands.
