Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Warnings for the Country

THE Solomon Islands Metrological Service (MET) is currently issuing heavy rain and strong wind warnings in English and Pijin version on their Facebook group.

The weather forecasting office today Thursday 27 January at 7am issued strong wind warning number seven (7) and heavy rain warning number three (3).

“We have issued strong wind warning for Waters of Rennel & Bellona, Makira, Temotu, Malaita, Guadalcanal and Central island provinces,” Weather Forecasting Officer, Mr. Eddie Maru said.

However, the heavy rain warning is enforced for most provinces.

“Rough seas and swells is expected for those regions and are not safe for small boats,” said Mr. Maru.

“Associated clouds and heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected to affect these provinces.”

The weather office are also cautioning communities living near to rivers, streams, hill slop, and low lying areas of possible threat to lives and property.

“Such localized heavy rain may lead to possible landslide and flash flooding over communities,” MET Office warned.

The office also advised intending sea travelers to take safety action as such natural occurrences can usually reduce visibility.

The office meantime strongly urged people to take safety measures to avoid danger and loss of life.
