Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner, His Excellency Andrew Schloeffel, highlighted agriculture as a way of life in Solomon Islands’ rural communities.

That’s the message from Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner, His Excellency Andrew Schloeffel, who spoke last week at the launch of the SAPE Farm Pack House in North East Guadalcanal.

“Agriculture is more than just an industry in Solomon Islands, it’s a way of life that sustains and supports the livelihoods of the majority of the country’s people,” he said to a crowd gathered at the SAPE Farm.

The new pack house is a facility that helps farmers prepare crops like cassava for export. It’s a small building, but Schloeffel says it represents something much bigger: growth, opportunity, and hope.

“It means more jobs for Solomon Islanders, improved livelihoods for farmers and increased cassava exports, something that we want to see more of,” he added.

The Deputy High Commissioner praised the Solomon Islands Government, local farmers, and especially the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) for their work.

“We are incredibly proud to have supported this milestone,” he said. “This is just the beginning.”
