The Mbokonavera III community in Central Honiara will enjoy cleaner streets and safer neighborhoods thanks to a locally-led waste management project supported by the Australian High Commission and Central Honiara Constituency.
The project, funded through the Solomon Islands-Australia Community Partnerships program, has delivered seven lockable waste management stations across Mbokonavera III. Each station is equipped with bins for household waste disposal and a solar-powered streetlight to improve safety and visibility at night, creating a more secure environment for families.

This project is one of 186 community projects funded by Australia since 2023 to support community-driven development across Solomon Islands. This project is one of nearly 200 community projects funded by Australia since 2023 to support community-driven development across Solomon Islands. In 2024 alone, Australia funded 100 community projects across Solomon Islands, representing more than SBD 23 million in direct investment to local businesses and creating jobs for locals.
The Mbokonavera III project was spearheaded by Mbokonavera III Chairman Mr Jamal Namo and Mr Robert Peseika, with technical support from the Honiara City Council Waste Management Division.
Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, said “This is a shining example of what happens when communities lead. Australia is proud to support Mbokonavera III in their efforts to create a cleaner, safer environment for families.”

Mr Rexford Paul, Constituency Development Officer for Central Honiara, attended the event, and praised the project as a transformative investment in community development and public health.
These efforts reflect Australia’s ongoing commitment to fostering community-led development, cultural resilience, and local economic growth throughout the Solomon Islands. Already in 2025, Australia has funded 50 additional community projects, representing more than SBD 11 million in direct support to Solomon Islands businesses – continuing to build stronger, healthier, and more sustainable communities.
