The Bubumala Community used a Solomon Islands – Australia Community Partnerships grant of more than SBD 177,000 for building materials to install a solar-powered pump and three 10,000 litre water tanks, sourced directly from Solomon Islands businesses.
Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton, said Bubumala Village now has safe drinking water for their community of more than 300 people, thanks to this grant.
“Australia is committed to our partnership with Solomon Islands. We share an ocean, a region and a future. We are proud to support communities across Solomon Islands to deliver small-scale community infrastructure projects like this one in Bubumala, Northwest Guadalcanal. We’re also proud that we are supporting Solomon Islands businesses directly through buying their hardware materials for these grants”, said High Commissioner Hilton.
Solomon Islands-Australia Community Partnerships is a small grants program, which supports community-led projects that seek to improve living standards.
These community projects extend across Solomon Islands – and Australia is looking forward to continuing our collaboration with communities across the Hapi Isles.
