The Bina Harbour Project Office in Auki held an important meeting in Busi’i village to talk with local landowners about protecting water sources project sites at Kwaleunga and Fagwa in West Kwaio Constituency.
The meeting focused on encouraging community involvement in the sustainable management and monitoring of these important water sources, where upcoming project activities are planned.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for the community to engage directly with the project team and technical consultant overseeing the design and planning of the water monitoring system.
These water sources are very important for nearby villages, and the project wants the community to help take care of them. People from the area were invited to share their ideas and learn about how the water will be checked and protected.
Brian Fatai, the Planning and Design Manager for the Bina Harbour Project, said that the voices of local people are key.
“We want your ideas so the project can meet your needs and protect your water,” he said. “The main goal of this meeting is to gather ideas and feedback from those closely connected to the Kwaleunga and Fagwa water source areas. This ensures the project aligns with the community’s needs and expectations while protecting these vital resources.”
The project plans to install special tools to watch and test the water. These include:
- A computer vision stream gauging camera to check stream levels,
- Pressure and water quality sensors,
- A weather station,
- A data cabinet, and
- A satellite connection to send the information.
This system will help keep the water clean and safe for a long time. The Bina Harbour Project says they are committed to working with the community to make sure water stays healthy and available for everyone.
This initiative reflects the Bina Harbour Project Office’s commitment to sustainable water resource management—ensuring long-term access to safe, reliable, and high-quality water for surrounding communities.
