THE Solomon Islands Meteorological Services has issued an urgent warning to the general public in the country to take necessary safety measures as heavy rain, rough seas, thunderstorms, and strong winds continue to persist over most parts of the Solomon Islands.

With the wet season in full swing, the Meteorological Service has predicted persistent heavy showers, thunder storms, and rough seas accompanied by strong westerly winds over the next few days.

According to the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services (SIMS), a strong wind warning is current for most waters in the Solomon Islands. The situation: a trough lies just south of the Solomon Islands, while a general westerly wind flow persists over the country.

“The general public is warned to take safety measures to avoid dangers or loss of life.

“People are therefore strongly advised to take safety measures to avoid danger and loss of life. People are also advised to listen to SIBC radio and all the media outlets for further updates and to share information with people with disabilities.

“The next strong wind warning will be issued at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.”
