PRIME Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele MP acknowledged the partnerships that resulted in the reopening of the Tarekukure Buying Centre in Choiseul Province.

PM Manele paid tribute to the landowners, Choiseul Provincial Government, Choiseul Bay Association, Commodities Export Marketing Authority (CEMA), the contractor, and the National Government for the combined efforts in the completion of the Buying Centre.

The Prime Minister emphasized it was through the partnership of the various stakeholders that enabled the reopening of the Buying Centre.

PM Manele also acknowledged that, as in every other Provinces, the potential is there for Tarekukure to commercialize other commodities besides cocoa and copra.

The Prime Minister further agreed that, like the Choiseul Provincial Government, the national government shares the same mission to improve the lives of the people, irrespective of the strategies used.

Turning to the future, PM Manele highlighted that the reopening of the Tarekukure Buying Centre is only the beginning of the government’s mission to bring opportunities and growth to rural areas in the country.

PM Manele further underscored that the government wants to ensure that rural people have access to services like those in urban centres.

“We want to see Choiseul farmers prosper, your children go to school, and your community grow stronger,” the Prime Minister stated.

PM Manele highlighted that under the Government for National Unity and Transformation’s (GNUT) policy, the government is committed to ensuring agriculture is the main driver of our economy.

Encouraging the people of Tarekukure, the Prime Minister emphasized that the future is in their hands, and that they must work together with the government to grow their businesses.

Reflecting on the Tarekukure building infrastructure, PM Manele highlighted that it is more than a building; it is a symbol of commitment by the government to bring development to the rural people.

The Prime Minister once again praised the partnerships forged between the different stakeholders involved in the reopening of the Buying Centre. He added that these partnerships are critical if we are to progress.

PM Manele led a delegation of government officials to Choiseul Province to reopen the Tarekukure Copra and Cocoa Buying Center on Friday last week.

PM Manele was accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure Development (MID), honorable Manasseh Maelanga, Minister of Commerce, Industry, Labor and Immigration honorable Harry Kuma, Chairlady of the CEMA Cabinet- Subcommittee honorable Cathy Nori.

The Commodities Export Marketing Authority (CEMA) is currently under a revitalization and recapitalization strategy (2021- 2027). As part of the strategy, CEMA is embarking on reopening and construction of copra and cocoa buying centers around the country.
