The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) has taken a major step to modernize farming in the Solomon Islands by launching its new Corporate Plan 2025–2028 and establishing the Agriculture National Advisory Council (ANAC).

The launch took place on Monday, 27th October, at the Heritage Park Hotel, bringing together ministry staff, farmers, students, development partners, and stakeholders to celebrate World Food Day.

ANAC, approved by Cabinet in June 2024, aims to strengthen leadership, coordination, and modernization across the country’s agriculture sector. It will serve as the main advisory body to MAL, offering technical, strategic, and policy advice to help make agriculture more productive and inclusive.

Speaking at the launch, MAL Permanent Secretary Dr. Samson Viulu said, “This marks a new era of policy direction and collaboration. Agriculture will now play an even stronger role in growth, food security, and prosperity for all Solomon Islanders.”

The Corporate Plan 2025–2028, themed “Transforming Agriculture for a Sustainable Future,” outlines eight key focus areas, including boosting productivity, strengthening food security, promoting climate-smart agriculture, and building strong partnerships.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi said, “This plan is a reflection of our renewed commitment to modernize agriculture, empower our farmers, and ensure the sustainability of our natural resources. We are focused on transforming the sector to become more resilient, inclusive, and productive.”

He added, “Empowering farmers, securing food, and building resilience for the Solomon Islands — this is not just our motto, it is our shared mission.”
