Host Chair and Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Manele urged fellow Forum leaders to remain committed and united in protecting the region’s ocean and fisheries—calling them the lifeblood of Pacific economies and the heritage of future generations.

In his closing keynote address at the recent 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting Troika Press Conference, Prime Minister Manele stressed the importance of carrying forward not only the decisions made during the Forum but also the spirit of unity experienced by all delegates.

“Over the past days, we have gathered under the theme ‘Umi Together, Act Now for an Integrated Blue Pacific Ocean Continent.’ This theme has guided our discussions and reminded us of our collective responsibility to safeguard the future of our Blue Pacific Continent,” he said.

He described the Forum as rich in dialogue, constructive in tone, and forward-looking in spirit.

“We have renewed friendships, signed the Pacific Resilience Facility, adopted the Ocean of the People Declaration, endorsed Labour Mobility Principles, and discussed reforms of regional architecture,” he noted.

Prime Minister Manele also highlighted the symbolic welcome ceremony for traditional canoes Tepuke and Uto Ni Yalo, which demonstrated the deep connection Pacific peoples share with each other and the ocean.

“The welcome ceremony of Tepuke and Uto Ni Yalo demonstrates the depth of our connections to each other and our close relationship with the ocean,” he said.

He praised the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for their professionalism and dedication in managing the Forum’s events.

“I must commend the tireless work of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. Their professionalism and dedication have ensured that every aspect of this Forum was carefully managed. Thank you, Secretary-General and your team,” he expressed.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude to all the leaders present, Prime Minister Manele said:

“I extend my deepest gratitude to each of you for gracing our shores with your presence. The outcomes we have reached this week carry weight because of your commitment to dialogue and conscience.”

Meanwhile, he urged leaders to carry the spirit of the Forum home.

“To my fellow leaders, I wish you a safe journey home. May you carry with you the gratitude, prayers, and friendship of the people of Solomon Islands.
