Azarinnah Zolela Set to Showcase at Miss Solomon 2024

AZARINNAH Zolela Stevens, a 20-year-old student from Vella La Vella in Western province, has been chosen to represent the Solomon Islands Climate Action Network (SICAN) as Miss SICAN in 2024.

Stevens is a 7th form USP foundation science student at King George VI National High and pledges to advocate for Climate change and its impacts on our women. She is also a very active member in the ‘Pacific Island student fighting climate change’ network.

She is also known for her commitment to environmental advocacy, emerged victorious in a poetry contest during the National Environmental Change Conference organized by SICAN and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Meteorology (MECDM) in 2023. Her dedication and passion for environmental issues have led to her nomination as a contender for the prestigious MSIP 2024.

Expressing her determination to raise awareness about the impact of environmental change on women and girls in the Solomon Islands, Stevens aims to propose effective solutions to mitigate these challenges while emphasizing the resilience of Solomon Islands’ women. Her participation in MSIP 2024 is seen as a platform to amplify the voices of vulnerable women and advocate for their inclusion in sustainable development efforts that cater to their needs.

With a focus on empowering young girls and women to engage in environmental decision-making processes, Stevens envisions a future where gender disparities are addressed, and women play a pivotal role in shaping the sustainable development of the Solomon Islands. Her involvement in MSIP 2024 signifies a significant opportunity to stand in solidarity with women of all ages, advocating for gender equality and impactful policies to drive progress in the country.
