CENTRAL Makira Constituency (CMC) has delivered 16 water tanks worth more than 300k for its rural water and sanitation program on 19 October 2023.

CMC office under the leadership of Honourable Member of Parliament (MP) Nestor Ghiro facilitated the project.

Communities in Ward 9 within CMC are the direct beneficiaries of this latest delivery.

Water & Sanitation project is one of the top priority projects in the CMC annual development plan.

The water tanks were procured with support funds provided by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programme of the national government managed by the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD).

PRC’s support for Constituency Development under the CDF programme came into effect in the 4th quarter of 2019 and focuses mainly on three components which include; community social infrastructures, Water Supply and sanitation, and Income generating initiatives to improve rural livelihoods.

Constituency Development Officer Gravis Tahiri said that this is an ongoing support of the constituency office under the guidance of Hon. Ghiro, MP with water supply & sanitation amongst the constituency’s office topmost priorities.

“Guaranteeing our rural communities have access to safe and clean water is paramount. More than SBD$300K under the PRC support fund has been utilized towards this important program,” he said.

Mr Tahiri further explained that these tanks will be shared among families, clinics, schools, and rest house owners in ward 9.
