Participants Undergone CAUSE Project Training

COMMUNITY Access Services Enhancement (CAUSE) project (2018- 2022) under the Component 3 of the Infrastructure and Service Delivery Training (ISDT) has recently undergone a series of free 7-days training courses for local participants in the country.

The CAUSE Project training includes: basic life skills and pre-employment training; occupational health and Safety (OH&S); basic financial literacy; Training in basic labour-based construction and service delivery methods and contracting and payment arrangements,; and additional modules targeted to contractor staff and community groups that aim to take up contracting.

The training mainly targets youths and women of vulnerable communities in the urban areas within the townships of Gizo, Munda, Noro, Auki and Honiara.

CAUSE Communications Officer, Lawrence Nodua said the training would provide skills training opportunities for individuals and contractors and strengthen their knowledge and capacity to understand the projects procedures.

“The training includes basic life skill and pre-employment training, occupational health and safety, basic financial literacy, training in basic labour based construction and additional units targeted to contractor staff and community groups that aim to take up contracting,” Lawrence said.

ISDT is implemented by Honiara City Council HCC working together with the Malaita, Western and Guadalcanal provincial governments and will be facilitated by CAUSE staff and contracted trainers.

“The training aims to train around 5,300 participants over four years (2018-2022) before the project ends,” he said.

CAUSE Project is the successor project of the Rapid Employment Project (REP). It is a Solomon Islands Government project implemented jointly by the Honiara City Council, Ministry of Infrastructure Development with the support and participation of provincial Governments of Guadalcanal, Western and Malaita.

The four-year project is funded by the World Bank International Development Association.
