THE Government acknowledges and appreciates the contribution of Guadalcanal Province to our economy, especially in the agriculture sector.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare highlighted during his keynote address during the Guadalcanal 2nd Appointed Day celebrations in Marau today.

The Prime Minister said Guadalcanal Province is the only province that is exporting noni and it is the only Province that has monopoly over the cassava industry.

“Cassava is a new industry in our country that has the potential to contribute to our economy and also improve the livelihood of our people as well.

This places Guadalcanal Province in a very advantageous position, and I urge you all to take advantage of this,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Sogavare also acknowledged the role that Guadalcanal Province play in providing food security for Honiara residents and those from other provinces living in Honiara.

“We go to the markets every day and take for granted the agricultural produce that we purchase for consumption. We are indeed fortunate and this is because of the efforts of our local farmers who toil the soil so that we can have access to a healthy diet. I would also like to acknowledge our women who tirelessly and faithfully turn up at the market with fresh food for us every day. Thank you,” the Prime Minister said.

The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Inclusiveness and Sustainability: Harnessing Opportunities through Township, Culture and Tourism Development”.

Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of working together and not in isolation.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the premier and his executive for continuing to serve the people of Guadalcanal and the country as a whole.
