NO ACTIVE Cyclone have been forecasted for Solomon Island Exclusive economic zone water at the moment.
This was the latest confirmation disclosed by Solomon Islands Meteorological Services (MET) last night.
Speaking to Environment Media Solomon Islands, MET officer, Edward Maru said at the moment there is no active tropical cyclone in the Solomon island region.
Mr. Maru however said the country is currently in the cyclone season (wet season) which is forecasted to last from November 2021 till April this year.
He said that based on the out look for Solomon Islands, “we are expecting 2 to 3 tropical cyclone to form within Solomon Islands region.
“Already one has already formed and went pass, that is – Tropical Cyclone Ruby that tracked away southeasterly towards New Caledonia,” he said.
However, he also said that if the oceanic and atmospheric are set then we expecting a low pressure system to build up.
” This is only an Outlook but in most cases this is a target. For Example, last year we have zero (0) to one (1) tropical cyclone but then we have a direct hit, that is TC Harold,” said Mr Maru.
He also reiterated that the country is in a LaNina period and therefore the country is expecting more rainfall as it picks up early December last year.
